Studio Policies
Welcome to Spotlight Dance Center! Our goal is to create a fun, positive learning environment for children of all ages. We strive to instill grace, poise, and a love for dance in each and every one of our students. Spotlight has been home to thousands of dancers since 1999. If at any time you have question regarding class content, policies, payments etc., please don’t hesitate to ask. We are looking forward to a great year!
Attendance
Regular attendance is the starting point for a successful dancer. We do offer make-up classes for any class missed September-December. After January 1, no make-up classes are offered. We do not offer refunds for missed classes. If a student misses 2 of the last 10 classes or misses dress rehearsal they will not be permitted to perform in the recital.
Classroom Etiquitte
- No eating or chewing gum during class
- Parents and friends are not allowed in the classroom, except during parent observation nights
- No children are permitted in the studios unless class is in session
- Absolutely no running is permitted in the studio or lobby
Communication
Communication is vital to the success of Spotlight Dance Center. The following methods are used for communication.
- Our website features all of the information that we distribute at the studio. Visit us at www.spotlightcincinnati.com.
- E-mail is our most successful form of communication. Please be sure that we have a valid email address on file for you!
- The bulletin board in the entryway will always display the latest fliers, announcements, and calendars
- Each family will have a folder in our mail center in the Main Lobby. Please be sure to chevk your folder each time you visit the studio.
Costumes
Costumes are required for any dancer participating in our annual recital. (Tiny Tots classes do not perform). The cost of each costume is between $45 and $65. We will be measuring each student in November.
Costume deposits are due as follows: $25 due with September and October payments, balance due with November payment. You will receive a statement in mid-October showing your final costume balance. Any over-pay will be credited to the next month’s tuition.
While costumes only come in small, medium, and large, our children don’t! Sometimes it is necessary to make small adjustments to costumes once they are received, i.e. adding snaps, Velcro, shortening straps, etc. If there is an alteration you are not able to make, our costume department will be happy to help you for a small fee.
Dress Code
Proper dress and shoes are required in every class. Hair should be worn in a bun with no bangs. You may purchase dance wear through us or at local dance stores (Fabulous Feet; Diana’s Dance & Fitness). Upon registration, you will be told which shoes to purchase. Please do NOT purchase the ballerina bedroom slippers!
Enrollment
Students may register by mail or in person beginning July 1. All registration is on a first come first served basis. Once a class is full, it will be necessary to select a different class time. We reserve the right to cancel any class with fewer than 5 students registered.
Insufficient Funds
Accounts with returned checks will be charged a $25 fee.
Late Fees
Monthly tuition is due the first class of each month. Any payments not received by the 10th of the month will be charged a $10 late fee. If the account is not paid by the end of the month, an additional $10 collections fee will be added. Dancers will not be permitted to attend class if an account is more than 30 days past due.

Placement
Dance is a cumulative learning process and every child learns at a different rate. Technique comes easier to some than others. It is not unusual for a student to stay in the same level for several years. Placement is based solely on the dancer’s ability and is determined by the teacher.
The first two weeks of class will be an evaluation period. Within those two weeks, the teacher will determine whether or not the student has been placed in the proper level.
Refunds
Tuition refunds will only be given if proper Withdrawal Procedures have been followed. Registration fees and costume fees will not be refunded for any reason.
School Closing
During inclement weather, a decision to close will be made by 2 pm. Please check the website or your email for more information. Morning classes follow Northwest Schools. If Northwest is delayed or closed, there will be no morning classes. Classes cancelled due to weather will be made up.
Studio Liability Waiver
In any physical activity there is the possibility for injury. While it is our intention to provide your child with safety and protection, it is not our responsibility to be held liable for any injury that occurs under our supervision. We require that each student be covered by a family insurance policy, and if an injury occurs, this policy is the sole source of reimbursement.
Withdrawl Procedures
In the event that you need to withdraw from class for any reason, you must submit a Withdrawal Form to Spotlight Dance Center by the 1st of the month in order to close your account. Accounts that are closed properly will be refunded for their final month’s tuition. If a Withdrawal Form is not received by the 1st, you will be responsible for that month’s tuition. Accounts will remain active and accrue late fees until a withdrawal form is received. Withdrawal forms can be obtained at the office or on the website.
